The Stragglers Art Shop

My creative process is informed by random encounters, vulnerability, and a love of the tactile experience. It is essential for the materials used (such as scraps of paper, torn canvas, old globs of paint) to inform the direction of the image. This allows for novel depictions of the world to unravel and enables imaginative spaces to take both physical and imagined form. The “rough” and “unfinished” aesthetic is the result of trying to maintain a playful approach that is akin to gestural drawing or doodling. The central characters occupying the pictorial space are versions of personal experience or inspired by random encounters with strangers. My hope is that the characters depicted embody a sense of vulnerability and wonderment.
